SEASON 2009/10

Mount Gambier District Little Athletics Centre will commence Friday nights meets for Season 2009/10 Friday 16th October 2009 at 4:45pm. Meets are held at the athletics facility at Mount Gambier High School on Brownes Road.

REGISTRATION

ALL ATHLETES MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE THEY COMPETE.  

REGISTRATION DAY will be held on Sun 11th October 2009 in the portable classroom on the oval at Mount Gambier High School from 10am to 12noon.

UNIFORMS

All athletes must wear correct uniform to compete.

HISTORY

Little Athletics began in Victoria in 1964 and has since spread to all states in Australia. 

The Mount Gambier District Little Athletics Centre first formed in the mid 70’s and lasted only a few seasons. At a public meeting in December 1980, the centre was reformed and held their first athletic meeting at the Mount Gambier High School grounds in the 1st week of Term 1, 1981, Saturday afternoon at 1pm. 

Since the 1981 season when the number of registered athletes was 115, the centre has remained popular. Last season 213 athletes registered including 28 Tiny Tots. 

The centre moved venue to Marist Park in 1986 where it remained for the next 20 years. Season 2006/07 saw the centre move back to Mount Gambier High School to the newly upgraded Athletics Facility. The decision to leave the picturesque Marist Park was not decided upon hastily but was eventually made to allow the athletes improved competing facilities.  

Little Athletics focuses on the motto of ‘BE YOUR BEST’. The philosophy of Little Athletics is best captured by the words ‘FAMILY, FUN and FITNESS’:-Family involvement, FUN with the focus on participation and personal improvements and FITNESS – developing a healthy attitude to physical fitness at an early age. 

The Mount Gambier District Little Athletics Centre is run by parents of the athletes. All athletes MUST have their parents or guardians present at each meeting to be able to compete. All parents are expected to help out in some way at each meet.
